Characters Name: Ruka Suirenji
Age: 16
Canon Point: Post-chapter 364
Species: Human
Gender: Female
Orientation: Heterosexual
History: Wikia!
Appearance: Here. As far as clothes go, she wears pretty much whatever though; she’s not “set” to one outfit or anything.
Personality:
Ruka’s an honest, determined, and hardworking girl. At a young age, she had been thrusted upon by bad luck and a huge 150 million yen debt from her parents. Even so, however, she was determined not to cry or be brought down by the predicament and swore to deal with it somehow and take up the responsibility of paying back the debt through her work as an idol. It’s difficult for one to notice these hardships without knowing Ruka well though, especially since she comes off as pretty up-beat and a bit of a jokester. She’ll goof off and joke about her fame every now and then, which is shown during her formal meeting with Nagi. She tells the little girl to address her as “Ruka-sama,” and says that “shaking hands with an idol of a hundred quadrillion fans will extend one’s life by a hundred years.” Even during an interview she had over the radio, she played around saying that the broadcast center had been made small especially for her, and that her fans should buy her gifts. Of course, she didn’t actually mean it like that, and even apologized to a worker there for saying so many rude things, to which he just smiled and said she was really a good kid.
Her parents had once owned a performance office, which was eventually lost due to them being deceived by numerous people and losing their money. They were overly trustworthy and naïve and could not see through lies. Because of this, Ruka does have some trust issues. She flat out tells Hayate that she’s not good with lies, and upon their initial meeting, before even letting him help her, she asks if she can actually trust him. She’s not very good at coming up with lies herself either, and when telling her manager about Hayate (whom she lied and said was her relative), she said his name was Tanaka Hanako, which her manager hardly believed. She normally doesn’t lie like this, however, and is actually an extremely honest person. She believes that if she treats others honestly, they’ll treat her with equal honesty back. Because of this, Ruka generally gets along with people and her fans easily.
Ruka does not like letting people down. Despite the injuries she received moments before meeting Hayate, she still insisted that the people going to her concert wanted to see her, so she had no choice but to go. Additionally, when she and Hayate go out for karaoke together, she wants to stay and sing a duet with him but instead gets a call and decides to leave for a shoot. Hayate comments on this, saying how it must be hard to be an idol, but she just smiles and says it’s her job; it can’t be helped.
Because of this, however, Ruka does have a tendency to push herself too much, and to the point of exhaustion. As mentioned, even after getting critically injured during Hayate’s fight with a robot at a doujin convention, she insists on not going to the hospital and says she’ll deal with it, despite the pain. On their way to her concert’s location, she says how she doesn’t have enough money to get a taxi to drive to her show, so she had just been planning on running the entire way, which was a fairly long distance. Once they finally get there, Ruka admits to Hayate that she’s in pain, but still pushes on and performs in her concert, dancing vigorously and even doing flips, showing her large willpower. Though the audience couldn’t see it, she was in a load of pain before, during, and after the performance.
Seeing as how she wasn’t able to tell that Hayate was a boy for so long (though he does have a feminine appearance, and the clothes he had been wearing during their meetings did not help), she’s not the most perceptive. She kisses him on the cheek, jumps on him, and even gets undressed numerous times in his presence, thinking he’s actually a girl. Ruka admits it herself, saying she isn’t good with lies and doesn’t see through tricks too well. Maria even goes as far as to call her an airhead upon their meeting, though inwardly.
Abilites:
Being a popular idol, Ruka’s extremely talented in singing and dancing simultaneously. Upon seeing her for the first time, Nagi even comments in awe, saying she looked like a goddess while performing, and that it was a sight and performance she could never forget. Ruka was even able to dance vigorously despite her critical injury and its pain.
Additionally, she’s skilled at drawing, especially manga. She publishes doujinshi under the pen name “Fly Dolphin,” which Chiharu and Nagi both point out is very good. Eventually, her whimsical story does become quite popular. Despite her career, Ruka aspires to become a professional mangaka.
Other:
-Has a habit of eating way too quickly
-Very appreciative and thankful toward people when they help her out
SAMPLES
First Person:
I have two meme threads here and here!
Third Person:
Ruka lay on her bed, flat on her stomach. Her head looked down at the pile of papers attached to a clipboard sitting underneath one of her arms. The other arm was tilted toward her face with its respective hand thoughtfully tapping a pencil against her cheek. Today was definitely a manga day. As nice as being out in the sun is, it was a little too hot out for Ruka’s liking, and she had been contemplating a new story idea anyway. Back at home, especially with what was going on at the time, she couldn’t write and draw completely freely. Here, however, she could. There wasn’t anyone telling her otherwise. At least that was one good thing about being away from home, right? Gotta stay positive about this…!
“Hm… No, that wouldn’t work…” she mused aloud, tapping the pencil lightly against her cheek a few more times. Here she thought she had the perfect idea for a story, but at this point, clearly it wasn’t going to work out too well. She needed a new idea. But what could that be?
She glanced around her bedroom for a moment, searching for something that may spark some sort of inspiration. After turning and looking out the window, she squinted, trying to look through the penetrating sunlight. Gah, so bright…! Once her eyes adjust to the bright light, however, she notices a pigeon flying by. …Actually, it’s not flying by; it’s flying right at her window. “H-hey, look out!” Ruka calls out, waving her hand a bit despite knowing the bird wouldn’t hear—or understand—her. It was too late though; the poor thing flew right into her window with a smack, flapped its wings to pull itself back up, then flew away.
…And then an idea hit herjust as the bird hit the window. Perfect!
